…and other applications on Macintosh,
Microsoft Windows, Unix and Linux computers. Cal Repro also supports most
graphic files, such as: EPS, DXF, TIF, BMP, GIF, JPEG. Most applications will
let you export, print or "save as" one or more of the file types
listed above.
In drawing programs such as
Illustrator, Freehand and CorelDRAW, enclose your design in a rectangle that is
proportional to your final size. This can be a no-stroke, no-fill rectangle, or
it may be part of the design. Avoid extraneous design elements beyond the
rectangle's edges. In PageMaker and QuarkXPress make your page size
proportional to the final size.
You
can use both TrueType or PostScript® fonts. Since there are many different
manufacturers of fonts with the same name, please send Cal Repro both the
screen fonts and the printer fonts. Do not use the various type style functions
under the Type Style Menu (e.g.: bold, outline, shadow etc.). Instead, use
Times Bold, Helvetica Bold (B Helvetica) etc. in the font menu. If you convert
your fonts to outlines (paths), you do not need to send any printer fonts.
Leave
the scaling and tiling (if required) to Cal Repro. Cal Repro's maximum width is 52.5 inches and maximum length is 20
feet. Requirements for larger posters or murals (e.g.: 20 ft. wide by 15 ft.
high or larger) can be achieved by tiling, similar to wallpaper. Call for more
information.
Never
rely on the colors you see on your computer's screen!
Rely
on a printed reference such as Pantone®'s PROCESS COLOR IMAGING GUIDE. Specify
colors as Pantone® or Process (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow & Black) rather than
screen colors, RGB (Red, Green & Blue). Most non graphic applications such
as Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc., use only RGB colors therefore the
printed colors will not match the screen colors. If you need exact colors call
Cal Repro and we will convert the colors to your specifications. Cal Repro 's
colors are close to the Pantone® Coated Process Colors, but are not exact
matches. For rich blacks use four color Blacks, 40% Cyan, 40% Magenta, 40%
Yellow and 100% Black.
If
you are including scans or other color bit-mapped files (Photoshop,
Photostyler, Pixel Paint, etc.) in a layout or design, for optimum results the
image should be approxmently 100 dpi at the final size. If this results in
extremely large files 100MB or larger, save files as below. When placing files
in a page layout program, save the Photoshop file as a CMYK EPS File with JPEG
set to Maximum. This not only preserves the color information but also
compresses the file so it is faster to send. When placing an EPS file into an
application you will only see a low resolution 72 dpi preview image of that
file, but it will print out correctly.
You can proof your files by
saving them as EPS files and then placing it into another program and printing
to a PostScript printer. Choose Reduce or Enlarge in the Page Setup dialog box
of your application's File Menu. Specify the same percentage enlargement that
Cal Repro will use. This will show design element mismatches and effects of
scale on the design.
